About the conference
It’s a great honor and proud for the Hungarian Scientific Association for Infocommunications (HTE) to host the 22nd European Regional Conference of the International Telecommunications Society (ITS), the ITS2011 in Budapest.
The ITS conferences have a long history of dealing with the more and more complex issues in telecommunications, attracting participants from all over the world: policy-makers, regulators, businessmen, software and marketing experts, and mostly researchers from universities and network operators, service providers, manufacturers, system integrators. European regional ITS conferences have been organized since 1987, the 3rd one was held in Budapest in August of 1989, co-hosted by PKI Research Institute of the Hungarian P&T. Now, after Copenhagen in 2010, Budapest hosts the 22nd European ITS event, co-hosted by the HTE, with a scientific support of the Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics of Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The motto of ITS2011 Budapest is “Innovative ICT Applications - Emerging Regulatory, Economic and Policy Issues”. There are hot topics, arisen from the digital convergence and the emerging new e-services and applications based on the convergent technologies, in particularly on the area of smart home and workplace, e-health, intelligent transport, energy-aware green technologies, digital cities. The research on the future of the Internet has become a strategic priority in the developed countries, including the socio-economic, security and regulatory issues. There are challenges from the deployment of new multimedia content and innovative internet applications, including 3D videos, tele-presence applications, multiplayer network gaming, enhanced and virtual world. The recent implementation of the new EU regulatory framework in electronic communications provides great importance for the exchange of the experiences and the discussions aiming at the selection of the best practices.
ITS2011 Budapest is to be a complex event, it keeps the traditional structure of a scientific conference involving Plenary Sessions and parallel Technical Sessions, international experts present their latest findings and share experiences in ICT policy, economy and regulation. Beyond the scientific sessions the 2nd PhD Seminar provides unique opportunity for PhD students to present their achievements and receive valuable advises for their further work. An ITS Board meeting and as a post-conference event, the final workshop of the COST IS605 Econ@Tel on economy of telecommunications is held on the same venue. The social events, as Welcome reception and Gala dinner, are organic parts of the conference program, providing additional opportunities for the exchange of views, deepening friendships and enjoying Hungarian hospitality and some beauties of Budapest.
